I'M NOT LAUGHING LISA
Lisa, the Greater Necklaced Laughing Thrush, is not amused. The bird, named after Paultons Keeper Lisa James who looks after the parents, was later DNA feather-sexed and turned out to be a male!
Birdkeeper Lisa, who has been working at Paultons for 18 months and is responsible for the "off show" collection at the Park, fed the chick on papaya and small pieces of meat hourly throughout the day, starting at 6.00 am! Geoff Masson, Livestock Manager says, "We are delighted to have successfully hatched and reared the Greater Necklaced Laughing Thrush, a species that originates from Asia where they are hunted and trapped as singing birds!"
The new arrival is one of eight species of Laughing Thrush at Paultons, including the Sumatran White Crested of which the Park has one of only two breeding pairs in the country. The birds are rare in the wild due to over trapping, as well as in captivity due to the ban on imports.
The Laughing Thrush joins the extensive bird collection at Paultons and forms part of over 50 attractions at the Park, including Santa's Christmas Wonderland which opened on Saturday 18th November.
