Two say Farewell to Paultons
This year Paultons said a fond farewell to two long serving members of staff, Mike Cobern and Tony Hunt, who both retired after each giving nearly twenty years loyal service at the Park.
Tony, who joined in 1985, was interviewed in the bike shed, as in those days there were no offices on the Park! Mike, who joined in 1986, fared a little better and was interviewed in the small restaurant which was built soon after the Park was open to the public in 1983 as a Park and Bird Garden. At that time the small number of people employed at the Park all helped out wherever necessary, which could include serving visitors in the restaurant and helping to feed the livestock on cold and frosty mornings or ice breaking duties to ensure the birds and animals got fresh water in the winter!
Originally Tony worked in the Gardens and Mike was employed as a professional tractor driver helping in what was then 20 acres of Pick Your Own, but as the Park's visitor numbers grew the PYO closed and they both moved into the Maintenance Department where they stayed and helped make Paultons one of the most popular family attractions in the South.
Paultons is still a family business today, owned and run by Richard and Sara Mancey, but now there is a purpose built office and the Park employs over 50 full time permanent staff and a further 200 seasonal staff at the height of the season.
