THE KING AND FLY!

The cast of the ‘King and I’ currently performing at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton were given a fleeting visit to Paultons Park today to try out the new flying Magic Carpet ride!

The Magic Carpet will be the second new ride at Paultons this year when it opens in time for the school summer holidays. The ride takes visitors on a swirling flying carpet rising up to 7.5metres in the air and swooping down the ground. The mystical eastern theming of the ride meant the Children of Siam from the King and I were ideal candidates to be among the first to experience Paultons latest thrill.

Park Marketing Manager Rob Griffiths said, “It always exciting when we launch a new ride but it was really special and particularly apt to have the Children of Siam with their wonderful costumes amongst the first people to ride the Magic Carpet.”

All too soon it was time for the cast to head back to the Mayflower in order to prepare for the evening performance.

The King and I will be at the Southampton Mayflower until Saturday 16th July and features some of the most beautiful and unforgettable scores ever written for the stage including ‘Shall we Dance?’ and ‘Getting to know you’. Celebrating the fiftieth year since the release of the Oscar winning movie this new production explores some of the myths behind this enchanting story, which is set in the early 1860’s in the Royal capital city of Bangkok in the Kingdom of Siam.
