PANTHERS PLAY FIRST GAME OF CRICKET AT PAULTONS
IN 46 YEARS!
A game of cricket was played on what used to
be the Paultons estate cricket pitch for the first time in over
40 years yesterday. Paultons Park has sponsored the youth section
of Paultons Cricket Club (The Panthers) for the 5th consecutive
year and presented the new equipment at the Park. The Panthers were
eager to test out the training gear (which included catching mitts,
quick cricket sets, hurdles, reflex trainers and training balls)
and so had an impromptu game on the exact area where cricket was
last played on the estate some 46 years ago in 1958.
“Our business is entertaining children
and so we are pleased to be able to support
our local cricket club where hopefully
the new equipment will give many hours of enjoyment
to the Panthers. Who knows, we may even
be helping to develop the next Ian Botham?!” said Steve Lorton,
Paultons Commercial Director.
Paultons occupies the land which was
once part of a magnificent country
estate complete with a manor house, tennis courts,
20 acre lake and cricket
pitch. Although the
manor house, tennis courts and cricket
pitch are long since forgotten the
beautiful gardens and lake remain providing a truly picturesque
setting for the 50 exciting family
rides and attractions the Park now offers.
Nicola Morris, spokesperson
for the Panthers
said, “We are really grateful to Paultons Park for their on-going
sponsorship. We have been able to purchase
various items that have helped young
people with both their cricket skills and fitness and
it has enabled us to bring cricket to
more young people from the area.”
The Panthers meet every Friday
evening from April – September at Paultons Cricket Club (situated
at Copythorne Common since 1961) and
anyone interested in joining can find
out more by calling Terry O’Brien on 023 8052 9232.
Paultons Park is open every day from
10am with further information from www.paultonspark.co.uk.
