BESLAN SCHOOL CHILDREN TO VISIT PAULTONS WONDERLAND
A group of 10 children from Beslan are
coming to Gosport for one month over
Christmas. The children and their group leader, a teacher, will
be hosted in pairs by families
in Gosport and Stubbington. The trip
is being organised by Chernobyl Children Life Line (CCLL), a charity
which was set up in 1992
to help the children of Belarus following
the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl in 1986.
Paultons is hosting
the group on Wednesday
22nd December to visit its Santa’s Christmas Wonderland experience
to give the children a fun and memorable
day out. “We are
only too pleased to try and help in any
way we can and hopefully a visit to Santa’s Christmas Wonderland
will be able to put a smile on the children’s faces and give
them some happy memories to take home
to share with their family and friends” said
Steve Lorton, Paultons Commercial Director.
Following
the Beslan school massacre on 1st September,
a national newspaper launched an aid appeal and CCLL was approached
to organise the holidays.
It is hoped the pilot
visit will encourage many more visits
from the Beslan school children with
a further group of 72 already booked
for a month, arriving
Easter Sunday, going to six other CCLL
Links around the country.
CCLL has brought over 37,000 children from
Belarus to the UK to date, many
of which are brought back on privately
funded repeat visits. A month in the
UK helps clear their bodies of radioactivity and is estimated
to add two years to a child’s
life expectancy.
